DECEMBER 6, 2016 – Several libraries in Lower Merion Library System accept donations of items from their patrons. Do you have lots of books, music CDs or DVDs lying around that you no longer need? Donate them to a Lower Merion Library such as Belmont Hills, Bala Cynwyd or Ludington. Penn Wynne and Gladwyne are not currently accepting donations. We might add the item to our collection or sell it to benefit the library.  We will provide a form to you, the patron, for tax purposes that states the type and number of items donated but we cannot assign a value to your donation. Clean out your house, save taxes, and help your community. It’s always a win-win situation.

At Belmont Hills Public Library, we ask that you not bring more than 2 boxes or bags at a time.

At Ludington Public Library, we are often asked by patrons about how to donate books or audio visual material. In some cases, we add the  items to our collections. Usually, however, we sell the items in our Book Store in the basement. The money from the sales help with our ongoing expenses. We always appreciate the generosity of our patrons. Your generosity benefits us and the entire community by increasing funding for our services and collection. Ludington has a number of rules governing what we accept and don’t accept. These have been formulated after many years of dealing with this process. We ask that you not bring more than three bags or boxes to the library at a time. If you need to do this please phone the library (610) 525-1776, to see if we can take large donations at that time. Although we realize that no one wants to throw away a book or put it in recycling there are times when that is best. If we receive moldy or inappropriate items, we end up putting them in recycling ourselves which is a waste of everyone’s time and effort.
We will accept:
• Hardcover and paperback books in good condition.
• Commercially published media (e.g., CDs, DVDs, )

oldbooks
Please, no moldy or damaged books

We can’t accept:
• Boxes of old books in long-term storage in a basement or attic.
• Damaged books with broken bindings, missing pages, etc.
• Soiled, musty, moldy, smoke- or water-damaged items.
• Books with writing in the text
• Magazines or encyclopedias
• Clearly outdated materials
