Responsible for managing the operation of the Children’s Department for assigned library in Lower Merion Township (Township). Work involves planning children’s programs, providing customer service to the public, developing and maintaining the children’s collection within the library, and promoting the use of library resources.
Work is performed independently under general supervision with moderate latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment. Position typically requires processing and interpreting of less clearly defined issues.
Works under the general supervision of the Head Librarian.
Part-Time Library Assistant 1 - Gladwyne Free Library (Posted 10/23/2025)
SCHEDULE:
Monday: 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Alternating Friday/Saturday: 9:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (On weeks scheduled to work Saturday will not work Friday.)
Potential to acquire more hours covering fluctuating needs from other day/evening shifts.
This is responsible library clerical work involving circulation duties, public assistance, processing, and other duties as necessary.
Work involves responsibility for providing services to library patrons of the Adult and Junior Rooms. Duties include circulation, reference, reader’s advisory services, processing, phones, shelving, and other duties as necessary. This position requires considerable knowledge of library services and actively promotes and educates the public on available services. The work requires that the employee have good knowledge, skill and ability to work with the public. Accurately completes tasks and projects as assigned by the Head Librarian.

Page positions are part-time positions with no benefits. Typical schedules are for evening and weekend hours. Pages must be 14 years or older and work well with the public and computers. Duties include: shelving library materials, checking materials in & out, registering patrons for library cards, collecting fines & fees, assisting with opening & closing the building.
